PREPARATION PHASE – wall repairs, stabilisers/primers applied, windows/doors masked
The wall coating product produced by Andura, a British Standards registered company (Registration No FM14830) is manufactured under the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System. The coating has also been assessed and approved by the British Board of Agrement – Certificate No 93/2917. The BBA is the UK’s major approval body for construction products and installers.
Apex use a hard-wearing, flexible resin based synthetic wall coating, which produces a tough, waterproof membrane suitable for external application. The coating cures to form a tightly adherent weatherproof barrier and is manufactured to be maintenance free. It incorporates an Anti-microbial system to combat the growth of unsightly mould on its surface and therefore retains a bright, clean appearance.
The exterior wall coating contains a developed blend of hard-wearing amorphous minerals, titanium dioxide and small quantities of crystalline silica. The mixture is bound with strong polyethylene fibres and manufactured using perlite to give a flexible hard-wearing finish which allows high levels of entrapped moisture to escape without causing blistering or delaminating. The protective membrane will tolerate thermal movement in the substrate without splitting or cracking and will retain its elastomeric properties even after prolonged exposure to ultra-violet light, as opposed to conventional paint which becomes brittle and cracks over time.
Our coatings are available in a range of colours and in finishes from smooth to textured. Samples can be shown if you request a quote.

For those wanting some more detailed information, please find below a list of some of the key materials that are used in our wall coatings.
The resin gives an excellent waterproofing effect ensuring no water gets through the coating to damage your walls. It has excellent resistance to alkali, good durability and helps to reduce water uptake resulting in less dirt pick up keeping the coating clean. The resin also helps the coating to stay flexible, preventing cracking.
A glassy substance of volcanic origin formed from the rapid cooling of lava. When the grains are heated at 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, perlite pops and and blows into millions of microscopic glass bubbles. These minute bubbles have an effect similar to a vacuum which gives the coating an insulative quality against heat and cold.
Titanium is used in the Apex exterior wall coating system for its ability to absorb UV light energy. This improves the coatings durability and reduces colour fading. It is also used for its efficiency in light scattering and its opacity (a material property that prevents light from passing through an object) qualities
This is used to fight against the effects of mould mildew and algae on the surface of your home. The fungicide used is an antimicrobial agent that is designed to fight a broad spectrum of organisms that could grow on the walls of your home including many fungal and algae species. It is specially formulated so that it does not react with any other ingredients in the coating that could cause harmful effects such as discolouring.
Ordinary paints have a low viscosity in relation to our coating, i.e., they are extremely runny which when applied on your property with high pressure spray application equipment would result in dripping and running. Optigel gives the coating a more progressively layered structure, so there is less dripping and running, reduced sag, and a higher film thickness when applied. This provides the coating with qualities which make it suitable for spray application.
Used in the form of milled fibre flocks, the polyfibre acts as a binding and structuring agent. The polyfibre flocks give the coating a non-slump characteristic. This is vital because the coating is more often than not applied to a vertical surface. The poly fibre flocks also make the coating more durable in areas such as corners and sharp angles and improves the coatings flexibility and resistance to cracking.
Another substance of volcanic origin, the mineral mica is used in Apex coatings to increase durability. A popular ingredient in many high quality paints, mica improves the coatings adherence to the substrate by aligning particles into the paint film. The result is a tightly bonded, durable and weather resistant wall coating.
A synthetic polymer used in many industries which has a variety of uses. Typically used for medical implants and sealants. This material is used to prevent any water and damp ingress into walls. Although water is prevented from penetrating the masonry material from the outside, moisture that has already been absorbed into the wall is able to escape and evaporate, similar to human skin. The silicone keeps a dry hydrophobic area beneath the coating and acts as a barrier to stop any capillary moisture movement within the millions of microscopic voids in the substrate.
This resin is often used in very high quality exterior paints for its adhesive qualities. The micro particles of the pliolite resin penetrate deeply in to the surface of the wall. This firmly locks the coating to the wall with an anchoring effect. This bond aids the coatings durability. The resin also has superb weathering and water resistance properties.
This is used in our protective wall coatings for its resistance to yellowing even after years of harsh weather conditions which is a common issue with many regular paints. Initially this resin dries very quickly so even when applied in thick coats, the finish is still perfect. The alkalyd resin also gives the coating great flexibility and elasticity to strengthen its resistance to cracking.
